Brewed by the Qingdao Brewery in Chian, Tsingtao is in fact the number one product, when it comes to consumer branded products exported from mainland China. Incredibly, it’s also the best-selling imported beer in the United States, obviously thanks to the sheer size of the many China towns across the US. Despite the fact that the beer is brewed in China, the few master Bavarian brewers still have a hand in Tsingtao, as the brewery was founded by German settlers in 1903.
The beer keeps winning awards for its taste and quality. In 1995, Tsingtao was awarded the Silver Medal in the Pilsner category at the famous World Beer Championships after winning the Bronze Medal a year earlier.
Tsingtao Beer is produced using the fine spring water from the famous Lao Shan mountain area, renowned for the absolute purity of the water. As for the hops, they are domestically grown and also of extremely high quality. Many people like the beer as it’s light, refreshing and not overly gassy.
To many, it is the ideal accompaniment to a Chinese meal since it never detracts from the food flavours. Some Far Eastern food can be light flavoured and you still want to taste it after a drink. Tsingtao is rather malty and it’s got a kind of fruity back taste to it. Another brilliant beer from Asia.
